Immigrate to Canada without a job offer: British Columbia’s Provincial Nomination Program
To apply for the BC PNP’s International Post-Graduate category, no employment offer is required
You can gain Canadian permanent residence without a job offer if you have a graduate degree in science from an authorised British Columbia university.
Science graduates may be eligible for the Skills Immigration – International Post-Graduate category of the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
The British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program (BC PNP) grants precedence to immigration candidates who have earned a master’s or doctorate (PhD) in one of the natural, applied, or health sciences disciplines listed below:
- agriculture;
- biological and biomedical sciences;
- computer and information sciences and support services;
- engineering;
- engineering technology;
- health professions and related clinical sciences;
- mathematics and statistics;
- natural resources conservation and research;
- physical sciences;
To be considered for this category, your application must be submitted to BC PNP within three years of the date on your official transcript.
To be eligible for this stream, you must also be able to show that you intend to live and work in British Columbia. This can be done by giving proof of your prior or current residence in the province, for example. You can also give B.C. documentation of your employment, studies, or family ties. Another option is to include a description of any actions you’ve done to permanently settle, such as getting a job or a place to reside or getting involved in the community.
To be eligible for this stream, candidates must not have a profile in the federal Express Entry system.
For priority processing, apply for Express Entry BC – International Post-Graduate Stream
Candidates who match the skills Immigration – International Post-Graduate category’s eligibility standards and have an active Express Entry profile, on the other hand, maybe eligible for priority processing of both their BC PNP application and, if nominated, their permanent residence application.
Express Entry BC – International Post-Graduate is a category in B.C. that coincides with the federal government’s Express Entry immigration selection procedure. In addition to the standard eligibility requirements, candidates in this category must have a legitimate Express Entry profile number and an IRCC Express Entry job application validation code.
In general, there are various advantages to building an Express Entry Profile. Candidates who earn a nomination under the provincial streams gain an additional 600 points toward their Express Entry ranking score, thus ensuring an ITA in a succeeding Express Entry invitation round held by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.
Almost all Canadian provinces and territories, with the exception of British Columbia, have at least one Provincial Nominee Program stream connected to the federal Express Entry system. Many of these PNPs, including those in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Nova Scotia, do not require a job offer.
Having an Express Entry profile not only allows provinces to select you from a pool of applicants under their provincial streams, but it also allows you to get an Invitation letter directly from IRCC under federal programmes if you meet the Comprehensive Ranking System requirements.
