The United States will reopen its land border with Canada
Starting in November, fully vaccinated Canadians will be permitted to cross the US land border
From November, the United States will reopen its land border with Canada to non-essential travel.
Fully vaccinated travellers from Canada and Mexico will be able to enter the country through land and seaports of entry, according to Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas.
Fully vaccinated People who are going to travel from Mexico and Canada will be allowed to enter the USA for non-essential purposes, such as visiting friends and family or for tourism, via land and ferry border crossings, in alignment with the new international air travel system that will be implemented in November,” Mayorkas said in a government media release.
“Cross-border travel generates substantial economic activity in our border areas and benefits the overall economy.” We’re glad to be taking measures to restart frequent travel in a safe and sustainable way.”
There will be two stages to the reopening. Fully vaccinated travellers with proof of immunization will be able to enter the United States by land or boat in November. Tourists who have not received a full COVID-19 vaccination will be denied entry.
Early in January 2022, the second phase will start. With the purpose of crossing the land or sea border, the US will require all travellers, both necessary and non-essential, to be fully vaccinated. Truck drivers, students, and healthcare workers are among those who must travel.
There are presently no specific dates set for the implementation of the new travel guidelines.
Congressman Brian Higgins, who has been supporting the plan of reopening the border, praised the decision. He tweeted that it will be beneficial to businesses and families affected by the closure, particularly those in border communities.
