What is a TSS visa? 

The TSS visa stands for Temporary Skills Shortage Visa (Subclass 482). This particular visa addresses skill shortages in Australia. In such a case, the TSS visa helps employers to hire qualified and skilled labour when they cannot find a skilful Australian. Individuals with TSS visa can find a job in Australia according to their nominated occupation that may lead to permanent residency in the continent.  

This TSS visa (Subclass 482) is a replacement of 457 visa, and it has three other streams: short-term stream, medium-term stream and labour agreement stream.  

What Really Happens? 

If a business owner who couldn’t find a skilled Australian citizen/ permanent resident for any particular job, they can sponsor someone to get the TSS visa to come and work in Australia. In order to sponsor someone under the TSS visa, the business has to be a Standard Business Sponsor or an Overseas Business Sponsor.  

Apart from this, there are several obligations that make an employer eligible to be a business sponsor. Requirements, including tenure of the business, position requirements, salary being offered to the sponsored employee and the list goes way beyond.  

What Are Three Australia TSS Visa Streams (Subclass 482)? 

Short-term Visa stream: 

Temporary skilled foreign workers are sourced in Australia on occupations listed on the Short-term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) for a time frame of 2-4 years. 

Medium-term Visa stream: 

Highly-talented and skilled foreign workers are sourced for occupations on the Medium and Long-term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) or the Regional Occupations List (ROL) for up to four years.

Labour Agreement Stream: 

Skilled foreign workers are sourced in Australia complying with Commonwealth labour agreement.
