Any state is eligible to apply

Sponsorship by the State of New South Wales (Subclass 190)

You must be a resident of NSW for three months in order to apply for NSW Subclass 190, however, you do not have to be working in your Nominated Occupation.

Regional Migration in NSW (Subclass 491)

To be invited to apply for NSW nomination, you must meet all criteria in one of the streams below.

Stream 1: Working and living in regional New South Wales.

Stream 2: Recent research in regional NSW has recently been completed.

Stream 1: Working and living in regional New South Wales

To be considered for a nomination in NSW under this stream, you must meet the following requirements:

• You have a valid skills assessment for an occupation on the occupation list for your specified region.
• have lived in a recognized regional area of NSW for the previous 12 months; and
• For the past 12 months, you must have worked in your selected occupation, or a closely comparable occupation, in a designated regional area of NSW.

Stream 2: Recent research in regional NSW has recently been completed

To be considered for a nomination in this stream in NSW, you must meet the following requirements:

• hold a valid skills assessment for one of the occupations listed on the occupation list for your specified region;
• have finished a program of study or education with a provider of education, in which: 
  • The research was completed in the last 24 months;
  • The educational institution is located in an NSW defined regional area;
  • The study satisfies the Australian study requirement (as established by the Australian Department of Home Affairs); and
  • The competent assessing body has determined that the qualification earned through this study is closely related to your specified occupation
• While finishing your studies, you must have lived in a recognized regional district of NSW.

Major Eligibility for NSW Subclass 491:

• Hold a valid skills assessment for an occupation on the Occupation List of your nominated region.
• You must currently reside in one of Australia’s states or territories.
