VISA FOR TEMPORARY GRADUATE STUDENTS

The TR (Temporary Graduate Visa, subclass 485) allows international students to work and remain in Australia once they have completed their education. You can travel, work, and study in Australia with this visa.

Graduates can only apply once as a primary applicant for the Temporary Graduate Visa (subclass 485). The visa must be applied for within six months after the completion of your course. ​​

UPDATE on the Temporary Graduate Visa (TR 485)!

Graduates who are subject to COVID-19 travel limitations can now apply for and be issued a Temporary Graduate visa from outside Australia. To apply, they must possess or have had a Student visa in the previous 12 months.

This applies to those who meet the following requirements:

  • Currently, I’m working offshore/abroad.
  • Due to travel limitations, I am unable to return to Australia.
  • Have completed your studies just in the last 12 months,

Within these 12 months, you can apply for TR 485 from anywhere in the world. ​​

After graduation, this Graduate Visa (Visa 485) is a preferred Visa choice for international students.

Two types of temporary graduate visas are available.

Workstream for Graduates

Applicable to overseas students graduating with experience and competencies that are related to an occupation on the Department of Home Affairs’ Skilled Occupation List.

A visa issued under this category is usually valid for about 18 months.

Post-Study Workstream

International students who have received a qualifying diploma and have applied for and been issued their first Student Visa to Australia on or after November 5, 2011, are eligible.

Depending on the visa applicant’s qualifications, a visa issued in this stream will be valid for two to four years.

Temporary Graduate Visa for up to 4 years

If you studied in a Regional Area of Australia, you may now be eligible for a Temporary Graduate Visa (TR 485) for up to four years (Regional places include places like Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat, Adelaide, Canberra, Gold Coast, and many more..)
